Rest Not Stress
“Cure stress permanently” This type of advertisement is alluring. But do you notice there is no guarantee? Promises of natural cures for stress flood the market. So why are emergency departments and doctor’s offices overflowing with patients complaining of symptoms that are stress related? Causing numerous physical and emotional conditions, stress is the big illness of our day.
but stress is not a modern day phenomenon. The Jews of Jesus day also experienced burnout. Feverishly, they worked in vain to meet the demands of hypocritical scribes. Jesus saw the Jews struggling under the weight of that oppressive system and encouraged them to come to Him and receive His rest. Thos who responded felt the weight of their sin removed, and they experienced the promise of a new life and future.
Jesus’ invitation calls out to us today. Are you burdened by unconfessed sin? Weary from responsibility, monotony, anxiety? Few things in life come with guarantees. Accept the life time guarantee that Jesus offers you. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (NKJV)
I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. There’s nothing that’s too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body!
