Why His Return?

John 14:3 (NKJV)

3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

The first appearance of Jesus was a mission of humility and sacrifice. The second will be a mission of triumph and transformation. Christ often described His return as the coming of a groom for his bride. The church, he said, is “the bride of Christ.” And what an eager bride we are, awaiting our Lord to come take us home. According to 1 Thessalonians 4:16, He will break through the clouds “with a shout, with a voice of an archangel, and the trumpet of God.”

Why His Return?

But He must also come to judge the world. Jesus spoke several times of the final judgement, when He would come to judge the living and the dead and,  seperate His faithful children from those who refuse to follow Him.

He’ll also return to establish a new heaven and new earth wherein dwells righteousness. How eagerly we await His new heaven and new earth, with its shimmering capital city, described in Revelation 21 as the new Jerusalem.

Whether He returns today or years from now, we can live for Him. Lets say with the hymnist, “Another year is dawning, dear Father, let it be, on earth or else in heaven, another year for Thee!”

I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. There’s nothing that’s too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body!
