Welcome to Refinery Life Australia.

The Lord’s Prayer.

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

This week we continue our study focusing on Paul’s letter to the Corinthians.

Today we are talking about You Were Bought at a Price.

Text

1 Corinthians 6:20 NKJV

20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body [a]and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Scripture Reading

1 Corinthians 6:12-20 NKJV

Glorify God in Body and Spirit

12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power.

15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!

16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”

17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Prayer

In Jesus name we pray.

Amen.

Introduction

Every noble life is based on self renunciation.

To make a worthwhile mark on the world, we must lose ourselves in a great cause.

Christians have found the cause, they live for God in Christ.

They have been bought at a price and thus are owned by the Son of God.

  1. What is the state of bondage from which Christians are ransomed.

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 6:19, “you are not your own”.

There was a time in the lives of the Corinthians, as well as all others, when they thought they were “their own.”

When they thought they followed their own ways.

In reality these Corinthians were in bondage to the law and its sentence of condemnation.

All unsaved people are in bondage to sin and its cruel fate.

All are in bondage to satan and his wretched service.

This power of evil fostered the delusion of liberty, pride, and selfishness.

All the while, satan was drawing tighter and tighter the chains of spiritual bondage.

2. Who are Christians indebted to for redemption?

Christians are indebted to-

The One whose laws and service were forsaken and despised.

The One without whose help all sinners would be in eternal bondage

The One upon whom sinners had no claim so far as justice and right are concerned.

The One whose heart was moved with pity by the spectacle of the sinner’s slavery.

The One who graciously resolved to suffer all that was involved in the work of deliverance.

The One who was ordained of God and who came into the world to save sinners, The Lord Jesus Christ.

3. The cost at which Christians were ransomed from slavery and purchased as free men and women of God.

It was a price no mortal was capable of paying.

It was a price that could not be counted in an earthly equivalent.

It was a price so high that the Son of God had to become incarnate and empty Himself of heavenly glory.

It was the price of the precious blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

1 Peter 1:18-19,  knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

Galatians 3:13, Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),

4. The obligations this deliverance places on Christians.

There are some negative obligations.

“You are not your own.”

The heart is not the Christian’s, it is Christ’s.

The thoughts are not the Christian’s, they are Christ’s.

Time is not the Christian’s, it is Christ’s.

Abilities are not the Christian’s, they are Christ’s.

All these are to be consecrated to Him.

Property is not the Christian’s, it is Christ’s.

He should be honoured with it.

There are some positive obligations too.

“Therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit.”

To love the Lord Jesus is of necessity to serve Him.

All the faculties and opportunities are to be laid on the alter.

Conclusion.

It is time for each of us to take a spiritual inventory.

When we have done this, we will see the price our Lord paid for our redemption and we will want to reconsecrate ourselves to Him.

Until next time
