Hey everyone I’m Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Church.
Thinking about the Cross is the theme for Tuesday evenings in April.
As Christians, we live with the inspiration of a crucified and risen Saviour.
God’s gift to us on the cross motivates us to unselfish service.
Today’s message is titled The Message of the Cross.
On the horizons of history, there are many mountain peaks that can be seen.
There is Mount Sinai, where God’s people, Israel, received the law.
There is Mount Tabor, where in Judges 5:20, They fought from the heavens;
The stars from their courses fought against Sisera.
There is Mount Carmel, where Elijah defeated the prophets of Baal and God answered by fire.
There is Mount Hermon, the prophetic mountain of the transfiguration.
But above all of them is Mount Calvary.
No mountain towers so high in its influence on people’s hearts and minds as that skull shaped knoll outside the city wall of Jerusalem.
Paul told the Corinthians, in 1 Corinthians 1:18, For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
The gospel is essentially the story of the cross, and that story is God’s message to the world.
The message of the cross has never lost its power.
The cross was a divine event.
But how is that?
