Hey everyone and welcome to Refinery Life Australia.

The Lord’s Prayer.

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

This week we continue our study focusing on Paul’s letter to the Corinthians.

Today we are talking about That Which Is Prepared for the Lovers of God.

Text

1 Corinthians 2:9 NKJV

9 But as it is written:

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

Scripture Reading

1 Corinthians 2:1-9 NKJV

Christ Crucified

1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God.

2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

Spiritual Wisdom

6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.

7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory,

8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

9 But as it is written:

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

Prayer

In Jesus name we pray.

Amen.

Introduction

At first glance, we might conclude that the promise of this passage of Scripture is referring to heavenly rewards.

However, a closer examination of the context will reveal this is not true.

The discussion that precedes these verses relates to the wisdom of the natural man.

Here, the writer spoke of the spiritual man.

Verse 10 confirms that this promise refers to the present and not the future.

  1. Some things the Holy Spirit gives to believers.

The first is the divine pardon of sin.

This is first in importance both chronologically and by priority.

The natural mind cannot grasp this.

The unsaved person does not have the Holy Spirit to make the explanation.

The second thing the Holy Spirit gives is spiritual purity.

God desires that we live clean, wholesome lives.

Spiritual purity is a cleanliness that comes as a gift of God.

The third thing the Holy Spirit gives is hope.

This can and does refer to hope beyond the earthly life, but is not confines to that.

It also refers to hopeful better things in the present life.

The fourth thing the Holy Spirit gives is the revelation of God.

The Holy Spirit reveals the very essence of God.

The Holy Spirit tells of the attributes as well as the thoughts of God.

He also reveals the purposes, plans, and providence of God.

The fifth thing the Holy Spirit gives is assurance.

Romans 8:16, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,”

Romans 8:28 declares, And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

The sixth thing the Holy Spirit gives is comfort.

John 14 is truly a promise for human comfort.

John 14:18, “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”

He made clear that the Holy Spirit is that Comforter in John 14:16-17, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

2. The Lord teaches believers to do these things.

1 Corinthians 2:10 says, But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

In this school, the believer is taught “the deep things of God.”

These things are undiscoverable by human reason.

Natural human powers cannot comprehend these things.

The “eye” referred to in verse 9 is the equivalent of natural faculties.

The things are also deep because they come from the fathomless ocean of divine love.

In this school, the believer is instructed by the greatest of teachers, the Holy Spirit.

As the divine one, the Holy Spirit has infinite knowledge about all things.

Conclusion.

If you are believer, the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, having received eternal life as a gift from God that makes you God’s child, then I urge you to take inventory of all that is yours because of your relation to God.

Until next time
