Watch and Pray

Watch and Pray
Luke 22:40 (NKJV)

When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

In his letter to the Ephesians, the apostle Paul uses the armour of a Roman soldier as a metaphor for the believers spiritual armour. Belt, helmet, breast plate, sword, shoes and shield. But Paul includes something in the Christian’s preparation for spiritual battle that he did not draw from the Roman military. Prayer. After describing the armour, Paul adds,  praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18 (NKJV)

That prayer language mirrors what Jesus said to His disciples in the garden of Gethsemane on the night of His arrest and trial. Jesus had just warned Peter about the coming temptation to deny Him (Luke 22:31-44), and the disciples about the opposition they would face. (verses 35-38) As the hour of His trial grew near, Jesus admonished the disciples, Twice, to pray lest they succumb to the temptation to deny Him and flee from persecution.

Watch and Pray

Waiting until the battle is underway is waiting too late to fight. Fighting begins on our knees as we call upon God for victory over temptation.

I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. There’s nothing that’s too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body!

You’re important to God, and you’re important to us at www.faithministries.com.au. When it comes to prayer, we believe that God wants to meet your needs and reveal His promises to you. So whatever you’re concerned about and need prayer for we want to be here for you! Or even if you just want to say Hi, you can contact us at www.faithministries.com.au/contact/

Until tomorrow

Blessings

Gary
