Australian Intercessors and Their Place in the End Times
By Pastor Gary Hoban
Australia is living in a decisive hour. The speed of moral, spiritual, and cultural change in our nation signals that we are not merely experiencing a social transition, but a prophetic moment. Scripture teaches us that history is moving toward a climax, the return of Jesus Christ, and in such times, God always raises intercessors. From a true Christian perspective, intercessors are not optional extras in the Kingdom of God; they are essential participants in God’s end-time purposes.
A Nation Weighed in the Spirit
Australia once carried a broadly Christian worldview, but in recent decades the nation has shifted rapidly toward secularism, confusion over identity, and resistance to biblical truth. Intercessors understand that these shifts are not simply political or cultural, but spiritual in nature. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age” (Ephesians 6:12).
Jesus warned that in the last days deception would increase, lawlessness would abound, and many would fall away (Matthew 24:10–12). Yet He also promised unprecedented gospel advance and a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 24:14; Joel 2:28–32; Acts 2:17–21). These two realities, growing darkness and increasing glory, coexist. Intercessors are called to stand between them.
God’s Search for Those Who Will Stand in the Gap
Throughout Scripture, God responds to history through human agreement. “I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me… but I found none” (Ezekiel 22:30). This verse reveals both God’s desire and humanity’s responsibility. Intercession is not passive prayer; it is covenantal partnership.
In the end times, intercession intensifies rather than diminishes. Revelation gives us a striking picture of bowls of incense, “which are the prayers of the saints”, being poured out and directly affecting events on the earth (Revelation 5:8; 8:3–5). This affirms that Spirit-empowered prayer plays an active role in shaping end-time outcomes.
Australia’s Prophetic Responsibility
Australia’s prophetic significance is not accidental. Positioned geographically at the gateway of the Asia-Pacific region, Australia has historically been a sending nation, sending missionaries, evangelists, Bible translators, and revival fire. Many have prophetically referred to Australia as the “Great South Land of the Holy Spirit,” not as a title of pride, but of responsibility.
In the end times, nations are judged not by their prosperity, but by their response to truth (Psalm 33:12; Proverbs 14:34). Australian intercessors are being summoned to contend for the soul of the nation, to pray that Australia would not abandon its spiritual inheritance, but be re-awakened to righteousness.
The Rise of the Watchmen
Isaiah declares, “I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night” (Isaiah 62:6). Watchmen are those who discern the times and warn the people. In Pentecostal theology, watchmen are not driven by fear, but by revelation.
In the end times, deception increases, even within the Church (1 Timothy 4:1). Intercessors help safeguard the Body of Christ through prayer for discernment, holiness, and faithfulness to Scripture (Jude 1:3). They pray not only for revival, but for endurance.
End-Time Revival Will Be Costly
I personally believe firmly in end-time revival, but not a revival without resistance. Scripture tells us that “all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12). Revival and opposition often rise together.
Australian intercessors are being prepared for perseverance. This is not a season for shallow prayer, but for consecration, fasting, and sustained intercession (Joel 2:12–17). God is refining His intercessors, drawing them away from distraction and into deeper intimacy and authority.
The Holy Spirit and Groaning Intercession
At the heart of intercession is dependence on the Holy Spirit. Paul writes that “the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Romans 8:26–27). In the end times, when complexity increases and clarity is often lacking, Spirit-led prayer becomes essential.
Australian intercessors are not called to pray from panic, but from victory. Jesus has already triumphed over the powers of darkness (Colossians 2:15). Intercession is not begging God to act; it is aligning with what Christ has already secured.
God Is Calling the Hidden Ones
Many of Australia’s most powerful intercessors are unseen. They are not on platforms or livestreams. They are faithful saints praying in homes, churches, and prayer rooms. Scripture reminds us that God often uses what is hidden to accomplish what is eternal (Matthew 6:6; 1 Corinthians 1:27).
In the end times, God is not seeking celebrity Christianity, but consecrated hearts. Those who remain faithful in prayer will help prepare the way of the Lord (Malachi 3:1).
Until He Comes
Jesus asked a confronting question: “When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8). This question follows a parable about persistent prayer. Faith, in this context, is not merely belief, it is perseverance in intercession.
Australian intercessors are called to stand until He comes. To pray for repentance, revival, righteousness, and readiness. To hold the line in the Spirit even when the ground seems to shift beneath us. History is moving toward the return of the King, and God is still searching for those who will stand in the gap.
May He find them in Australia.
Prophetic Declaration for Australia and Her Intercessors
By Pastor Gary Hoban
We declare that Australia belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness” (Psalm 24:1).
We declare that God is raising intercessors across this land, watchmen who will not be silent day or night. We declare that the Spirit of grace and supplication is being poured out upon the Church in Australia (Zechariah 12:10).
We declare that every altar of compromise is being confronted by the fire of the Holy Spirit, and that the fear of the Lord is returning to the house of God (Malachi 3:1–3; Acts 5:11).
We declare that Australia will not be handed over to deception, confusion, or spiritual apathy. The light of the gospel will shine in the darkness, and the darkness will not overcome it (John 1:5).
We declare that the prayers of the saints in Australia are rising like incense before the throne of God, and that heaven is responding to those prayers in power and righteousness (Revelation 8:3–5).
We declare that the Church in Australia will be refined, not removed; purified, not silenced; empowered, not overcome. The Bride of Christ will make herself ready (Revelation 19:7).
We declare that the Holy Spirit is awakening the next generation of intercessors, sons and daughters who will prophesy, young men who will see visions, and old men who will dream dreams (Joel 2:28–29).
We declare that Australia will once again be a sending nation, sending prayer, truth, missionaries, and revival fire into the nations of the earth, especially throughout the Asia-Pacific region (Matthew 28:19–20).
We declare that righteousness will exalt this nation, repentance will precede renewal, and revival will follow obedience (Proverbs 14:34; 2 Chronicles 7:14).
We declare that the Lord is positioning Australia for an end-time harvest, and that intercessors are being strengthened to stand until the work is complete (Matthew 24:14).
We declare that Jesus Christ is Lord over Australia, yesterday, today, and forever, and that His Kingdom will come, and His will shall be done in this land as it is in heaven (Hebrews 13:8; Matthew 6:10).
And we declare these things in faith, obedience, and hope,
until the King returns.
Amen.
Until next time
