God Is Calling The Prodigals Home
Brother Andrew
During a recent PIFA meeting, as we were worshipping, I felt the Lord draw me to read this passage in Zephaniah:
From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia
My worshipers,
The daughter of My dispersed ones,
Shall bring My offering.
11 In that day you shall not be shamed for any of your deeds
In which you transgress against Me;
For then I will take away from your midst
Those who rejoice in your pride,
And you shall no longer be haughty
In My holy mountain.
12 I will leave in your midst
A meek and humble people,
And they shall trust in the name of the Lord
Zephaniah 3:10-12 NKJV
When I first read this passage, it troubled me. What was God saying here? Does this mean God is not going to care about the evil that men do? And then it goes on to say that He will take away people from amongst us, even cutting them off. I wondered if I was understanding what the Lord meant. But I felt drawn to look a little more deeply and as I did I realised that there is more going on here. In verse nine, it says:
“For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language, That they all may call on the name of the Lord,”
Zephaniah 3:9 NKJV
So here it saying that all will call on the name of the Lord. In verse 11, the Hebrew word that is translated as ‘take away’ is sur and it can be understood to carry the meaning of calling back or turning aside from their course. Suddenly it became clear to me that whatever other historic and theological meanings might be ascribed to this passage, the Lord was showing me something else for us now. God is not uncaring or cutting people off, but rather, the Lord is calling people back to himself.
In the Amplified version it says
“For then [changing their impure language] I will give to the people a clear and pure speech from pure lips, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve Him with one unanimous consent and one united shoulder [bearing the yoke of the Lord].”
Zephaniah 3:9 AMPC
And so I believe that what the Lord is showing me is that this is a word for us today to say that he’s going to not cutting off people, but he’s calling them back. This is a word I believe the Lord is saying for right now. He’s calling back the prodigals. The scripture is referring to those that rebel, and it is those He is calling back.
These are serious things in the natural, but the Lord’s grace and power is greater to call back those that are lost. Earlier in the evening we prayed for those that don’t even know they are lost. Yet the Lord is greater and he’s removing all of that. And by doing that, he’s going to bring us into a place where all those people, all of us together, I’m not saying the whole world, but I sense the Lord saying he’s bringing people back that have wandered or been taken from amongst us that have been taken away, broken away, gone to a place of destituteness and lostness, sorrow, confusion and hurt. The Lord is speaking to say, “You’ll come back to bring people to seek refuge in the Lord, to be in refuge in him, and to gather together in the Lord with one voice, so you may all be rejoicing as one”
Prayer and declaration
Lord, Father God, I thank you, Lord, that you are doing a greater work amongst us. I pray, Lord, that you would raise up intercessors, raise us up all the more to pray in the night, in the morning, in every moment that you give us Lord. To speak into being for you to do those things that you are going to do. That you are calling back, Lord, those ones that have been hurt and lost, those ones that have gone astray, those that are prodigals, those that the enemy would say, “We’ve got him, we’ve got her.” Where the enemy has tried to cut people off, to bring them damage and lostness, Lord, you are doing something greater!
Lord, we declare that you are bringing pure speech, pure lips, so that we may all gather together, Father. We declare that the lost ones we’ve been holding up to you, you are bringing home, you are bringing people back. Those ones that seem to be lost, Lord you are saying, “Now is the time. Now is the time.” In the scripture it says ‘in the day’, but I felt the Lord is saying, “Now is the time. This is the time that I’m doing it”. And I sense the Lord saying, “This is a time for us to stand up, to raise up our voices in one accord so that those that will come in, will also raise their voices with us. It won’t just be that they creep in the back door, but they will stand with us with one voice and give glory to God.”
So Father, do your things, do your will, bring your Spirit upon us and anoint us. Send your angels, Lord, and we ask Father God that you might use each of our voices. Father, that you might speak through and live through us. Father God, that you might shine through us. Father God, as you say in Psalm 24, Lord, that our gates and our doors would be open so that you would live through us. Father, that many would see that light of your glory and come in, and back to you Father.
Until next time
