Today we are continuing our study of the spiritual gifts.

It is important to remember that a positive response on our part as believers to the Father’s gift of the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential if we are to truly be God’s people.

Today we are discussing The Gift of Evangelism.

Ephesians 4:11 (ESV)

11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers,

Scripture Reading

Acts 21:1-8 (ESV)

Paul Goes to Jerusalem

21 And when we had parted from them and set sail, we came by a straight course to Cos, and the next day to Rhodes, and from there to Patara.

2 And having found a ship crossing to Phoenicia, we went aboard and set sail.

3 When we had come in sight of Cyprus, leaving it on the left we sailed to Syria and landed at Tyre, for there the ship was to unload its cargo.

4 And having sought out the disciples, we stayed there for seven days. And through the Spirit they were telling Paul not to go on to Jerusalem.

5 When our days there were ended, we departed and went on our journey, and they all, with wives and children, accompanied us until we were outside the city. And kneeling down on the beach, we prayed

6 and said farewell to one another. Then we went on board the ship, and they returned home.

7 When we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais, and we greeted the brothers and stayed with them for one day.

8 On the next day we departed and came to Caesarea, and we entered the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, and stayed with him.

The gift of evangelism is a gift that each Christian should cherish and use enthusiastically.

The world waits for people of God to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

  1. What is the meaning of evangelism.
  1. Three New Testament words are closely related.
  1. Evangel, means good news.

This is the message to be declared, the gospel of salvation.

2. Evangelical, indicates the spirit of the message.

Its spirit calls attention to the message itself.

3. Evangelist, refers to the bearer of the message, the one who has the gift to proclaim the good news.

B. In this message evangelist and evangelism will be used interchangeably because both the message and the messenger are gifts of the spirit.

C. The concept expounded is hat of proclaiming good news.

Believers who use this gift of the spirit proclaim in an effective way.

The message of Christ will be shared in such a way that people will respond to the Holy Spirit’s call, commit their lives to Christ, and become disciples.

The fruit of an evangelist is a determining factor as to whether the gift is in operation or the person is operating on his or her own will.

2. What are some basic qualifications for evangelism.

  1. Evangelists must meet several spiritual requirements.

First, they must be born again.

Jesus must be real in their lives, and they must have faith, clean character, reverent enthusiasm, and humble dedication.

B. Evangelists must meet certain physical requirements.

They must communicate a message that appeals to both the intellect and emotions and that embodies doctrinal content.

C. Evangelists must meet some fruit bearing requirements.

Fruit bearing might be different from what some evangelists desire or expect.

It is their responsibility, under the Holy Spirit’s guidance, to proclaim Jesus as Saviour and Lord.

But it is the One who gives the gift who also gives the fruit, that is, convicts people of their sin and draws them to Christ.

3. Let’s look at those who possess this gift.

  1. Evangelists may be placed in three categories.

These are professional evangelists, those who make their living by full time evangelistic efforts.

Evangelistic pastors , all pastors should fall into this category, but some seem to be more gifted in this area than others.

And the third category is laypersons who engage in outreach.

B. The Bible teaches that all believers have this gift.

The Lord equips all His children to tell others of His redemptive love.

It is a natural thing for people who have been born again to bear testimony to their experience.

Considering the millions of lost people in the world today, it is urgent that those who have the gift of evangelism exercise it.

Hopefully thousands of people who love the Lord and want to see His kingdom grow will consecrate themselves to use the gift of evangelism.

Until next time
