Today we are going to talk about, First Things First.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
When I’m asked to do something, I often think of this verse.
The truth contained within is helpful to structure my days and maintain focus.
How do you begin to set the right priorities for your life with the pull of everything the world says is important?
It isn’t easy but its absolutely essential if you want to make sure you don’t miss the things that really matter.
When we look at todays verse some people have a tendency to read the first part quickly, so they can get to the last part, “and all these things will be added to you.”
And if we are honest, we would probably admit that we would prefer to receive the last part without the first part, focusing on what we “need”.
Its the stuff that happens each day, the pressing needs all around us, even if they are good things that can take our focus away from what matter the most, our relationship with God, and the people He has put in our lives.
But look at the verse again, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness”
How can you do that?
With all the challenges, obstacles, and everything that is urgent each day, is it even possible?
Let me suggest that you keep doing what you are doing right now, taking a few minutes to be quite and spend time with God.
When you do you will be surprised at how He will lessen you worries about tomorrow, and release you from the tiresome pace of the world’s urgent priorities for today so you can make room for His priorities.
Dedicating time for the priorities god has entrusted you with may not seem a big deal right now, but to someone who needs you, it can make all the difference in their life and in yours.
Starting today seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and watch as all these things will be added to you.
